Saturday 25th July, 2009 will see the Copperhouse Pool, Hayle invaded by at least 25 crews of U14 gig rowers. The event which has always been hosted by Hayle, continues to attract a great number of crews.
The ideal setting of the pool allows spectators to watch the whole of the race, some even cycling along St Georges Walk.
This year the medals for all competitors have been sponsored by Porthminster Hotel, St Ives. It has always been important that the rowers have individual recognition of their participation on the day and the hotel were keen to be involved in the sponsorship of the sport and the rowers who will take the sport forward in future years. General Manager Ben Young commented ‘As the hotel continues to change and look at the future it is nice to be able to reward the U14 rowers for their hard work and to encourage them in their future sporting journeys. Good luck to all competing’.
Six gigs are loaned for the event and then the crews get allocated a gig and berth, in a knock out competition. Finally three crews will compete for the title ‘U14 Champions 2009’. Racing begins at 11am and will continue throughout the day.
Gigs loaned – Azook (Hayle), Amelia Lee (Caradon), Bedehaven (Bude), Golden Gear (Helford), Rose (Cadgwith), Ryder (Looe), Teazer (Padstow)
