County Pilot Gig Championships 2009
12th and 13th September 2009 – Ladies and Under 16’s Championships
26th and 27th September 2008 – Men’s Championships
Newquay Rowing Club is pleased to invite you to the annual County Gig Championships to be held at Newquay Harbour. The format will be the usual knock-out competition as follows:
Coxwain’s meeting at 9.00am
Round 1 commencing at 9.30am
Plate Race final
Quarter-Final’s at 9.30am
Round 1 of under16’s (ladies weekend only)
Under 16’s Final (ladies weekend only)
It is important that all crews are registered by Thursday 13th August. Please complete the entry form and post along with the deposit. Please note late entries will not be accepted.
Heats and berths for Round 1 will then be drawn and published on the CPGA website on the 22nd August. There will be a maximum of 6 gigs in each race and Rounds 1 and 2 will consist of heats (number will depend upon entries) with 2 races in each heat.
C crews will be restricted to those who have taken part in tribute series events during the season, so any C crew that has not rowed at all three Tribute events are welcome to send in their entries, but are not guaranteed a place. Places will be allocated on a merit basis e.g. those who have rowed two out of the three tributes and who get their application in first will be given first dibs.
After that any additional C crews will be added to the reserve list, but you need to be aware that some crews do not ‘drop out’ until the day.
A returnable deposit of £50 per crew will be levied. This will be returned to clubs as you register your crews. Please make cheques payable to CPGA and included with your entry form.
Gigs of a similar age/speed will be provided through the CPGA (our thanks to those clubs who are kindly entrusting us with their boats). You will be required to provide your own oars, seats, pins and VHF Radio and lifejackets. All gigs must carry a working VHF Radio, (turned on).
The Junior Championships will be held on Sunday 13th September, after the ladies Quarter-Finals. All crews and coxswains must wear lifejackets (provided by your own club). If any crews rowing in the ladies or men’s championships contain a rower who is of junior age, the rower (or rowers) and coxswain must wear lifejackets.
Parking for rowers will be available in the Belmont Car Park as usual. Hot and cold food, pasties, burgers, sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold beverages will be available from the gig shed. Official 2008 County Championships clothing (Sweaters, hoodies, vests, T-Shirts, etc) will be on sale by the gig shed.
Your Public Liability Insurance should be registered with the CPGA secretary prior to the event, as should all rowers participating in the event.
Presentations will take place shortly after the finals on the Sunday of each weekend. Evening entertainment will take place in the Rowing Club after the presentation (there is also a live band every Saturday night for those who are staying in Newquay). Please contact me direct for details of campsites and accommodation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the event of cancellation due to adverse weather conditions, please check the CPGA website on the Friday beforehand. Individual e-mails will be sent to club secretaries of registered crews.
We look forward to seeing you all in September.
