Thanks to Dave for this report.
It was the start of Flushing Regatta Week and despite the inclement weather on Saturday morning The Flushing & Mylor Pilot Gig Club forged ahead and staged their annual Beach Fun Day on Kiln Beach, Flushing. Gazebos and a marquee were erected after a beach clean up first thing in the morning. Great music from ‘The Hutt’ provided some atmosphere whilst the ‘A crew’ chefs prepared the delicious ‘Mylor made’ burgers and sausages at the BBQ. MC Hocking stirred up the fun and the games began with adults and children taking part in a variety of traditional games on the sand. Fiercely competed sack races, apple bobbing and tug of war made for some great entertainment resulting in a great afternoon enjoyed by all that came along.
Many newcomers of all ages had a go at rowing the gigs in some informal racing just off Kiln Quay marshaled by Penny in one of the safety boats.
All in all a successful day for the Gig Club and all those on holiday in the village who joined in the event. We have a great bunch of people in this club with all sorts of talents and dedication. A big thank you to all those that worked hard to make this event happen and we look forward to more of the same in the future.
